Tamentfoust

My obsession with North Africa comes from the novels of my favorite author, Albert Camus. Born and raised in Algeria, he wrote of the blazing sun and scorching sands, beaches and slums, lost and redemption. Un lieu « placé à mi-distance de la misère et du soleil » Through his words, I could almost hear the raï and the calls to prayer.

North Africa offers an exoticism and an aura of mystery that neither Asia and Europe have ever held for me. Algeria, Morocco, and Egypt are all very high on my wish list. A little danger, a lot of sun, and one big step into the unknown. I’ve been thinking about it all the time lately. A one-way ticket to Spain is only $400. From there it’s simply a short ferry ride to Morocco and endless adventure.

Tonight I will dream of sand dunes, tajines, pyramids, and the Casbah. Better brush up on my French.
