Twenty-Ten

Happy New Year! I hope 2009 treated you well and 2010 treats you better.

I thought about writing down some resolutions, but then decided against it. Of course, I have my laundry list of things to work on, but I don’t believe in waiting for a new year, new season, or new day to start working on them. I used to do that, but then I realised that I was wasting time and right now is always the best moment to start something. Some of my biggest regrets have come from letting ‘tomorrow’ become ‘tomorrow’ become ‘tomorrow’. No more.

So, no resolutions, but I will leave you will a philosophy that I have been trying very hard to work on, and will continue to make part of my life in the new year and new decade:

“Take wrong turns. Talk to strangers. Open unmarked doors. And if you see a group of people in a field, go find out what they’re doing. Do things without always knowing how they’ll turn out. You’re curious and smart and bored, and all you see is the choice between working hard and slacking off. There are so many adventures that you miss because you’re waiting to think of a plan. To find them, look for tiny interesting choices. And remember that you are always making up the future as you go.” xkcd 267
